Smallest of Renault electric concepts unveiled

This is the two-seat Renault Twizy, an urban runabout in the mould of the Smart EV. It features a 20bhp motor said to deliver performance equivalent to that of a 125cc scooter.

It is slated for a 2012 launch and joins four Renault electric concepts that are on show at Frankfurt and will preview the manufacturer’s range.

The 1+1 configuration keeps the Twizy ZE slender, although it has a four-wheel chassis. The wraparound bodywork “creates a safe, reassuring cocoon which offers first-class protection for both the driver and the passenger”, says Renault.

The Twizy is designed exclusively to tackle the problem of urban mobility and will be the third concept to hit showrooms when it goes on sale late 2011.

The three-metre turning circle makes it one of the most manoeuvrable vehicles on the road, and Renault says the four wheels and low centre of gravity provide stability and excellent handling.

Re: Renault Twizy revealed

The "all my tyres have been let down" look is some ... interesting design language.
