What is it?
The facelifted Octavia in sporty vRS guise.
Upgrades over lesser Octavias (and the old vRS) include LED driving lamps and a lowered chassis, and they’ve chopped some weight out of it — 20kg in the case of the petrol car.
Engines are unchanged but prices have gone up; this petrol estate is now £19,010, £245 more than the last one.
What’s it like?
Still very fine, retaining that blend of practicality and entertainment that marked out the last vRS.
The upgrades are fairly subtle inside and out — a smidgen of new trim, different instruments — but it still grips and steers well enough and, on paper at least, is ever so slightly faster.
Should I buy one?
Certainly.
The vRS is still good value — as a wagon it has more space than a Citroën C5 Tourer — and offers a decent if not thrilling drive.
Luckily Skoda hasn’t overdone the marginally higher level of glitz, so it retains its eminently practical nature and remains a very likeable car.

Sorry to dig up an old topic, but this needs saying. Got an Octavia VRS in the household. Beautiful car - amazing to drive, surprisingly economical, everyone comments on it. We were looking forward to the 'amazing Skoda experience' in terms of reliability, customer care etc. Whilst customer care at the dealer itself has been fine, the car is now becoming problematic. It's 11 months old, and from about 5 months ago has been playing up with a multitude of electrical problems. Been back to the dealer numerous occasions, they fix it, problem returns within days, even hours. This happened for about the 5th time (after having been back at the dealer numerous times) a couple of weeks ago. We've been through three courtesy cars this month (May) and haven't seen our car for about 2 weeks. They've been emailing Skoda asking what to do next - try this, try that, but none of their 'fixes' have worked. So, they emailed Skoda last week saying something really needs to be done (either a technician from Skoda UK to come up and look at it, or the car travels down to them). Dealer hasn't heard a thing from Skoda UK. As I'm sure most of you on here can imagine, it's pretty inconvenient and annoying when your car's stuck at the garage, and even more so when it's a brand that's supposed to be top-notch in terms of both reliability and customer satisfaction. Whilst the Octavia is a joy to drive, at the moment it's not being reliable, whilst Skoda UK aren't providing much customer satisfaction at all. Feel like asking for a replacement, but it's a Limited Edition, so any replacement wouldn't be half as unique. :(
